GOOD ONE COMIN ON

Two six packs of Shiner

99 cent butane lighter

Lucky Strikes and a fifth of Patron

ice down that Igloo cooler

tank of gas that oughta do er’

I can feel a good one comin’on

Throw in Ray Wylie Hubbard

sing along to “Redneck Mother”

any blues I had before are gone

another workin’ week is over

no chance of stayin’ sober

I can feel a good one comin’ on

chorus

Yea we’re gonna roll all night

we’re gonna get the feelin’ right

we’re gonna keep this party rockin’

till the break of dawn

I can feel a good one comin’ on

Three blondes in a rag top Mustang

followed us down to the lake and…

didn’t have to think about that too long

skinny dippin’ in the bright moonlight

situation couldn’t be more right

I can feel a good one comin’ on

chorus

LIKE I AM

Well I’m mean as gravel I’m poor as dirt

I like things better the way they were

well I’m strong in the head but I get things done

I spend too much money to have a little fun

Here you are you come around

you want me to settle down

chorus

Before you jump you need to know

it’s a crazy thing the way I roll

I ain’t changin’ I’m a stubborn man

can you love me like i am

can you love me baby, like I am

Well I’m stuck in my ways and I grew up hard

I drink milk out the carton and juice from your jar

well some people say I sleep too much

I just sleep when I can till I have to get up

Here I am what do you think?

I guess a nod is as good as a wink

chorus

BOTTOM OF THIS

I ain’t tryin to be no jerk

It’s just that I just got off from work

and I know you’d like to bend my ear

I wanna listen and that’s sincere

can’t a fella have just one beer

chorus

Before the boss, the bank, the box full of bills

empty gas tank and it’s all uphill

the wife, the kids, why do we all exist?

add politics, religion and war to the list

tell me, is there anything that I missed?

and I’ll get to the bottom of that

after I get to the bottom of this

Well I look outside and see a world on fire

they’re lowering the boom and the creeks gettin’ higher

gotta be ready cause we’re on the brink

I’ll do better after just one drink

gimme a minute so I can unthink

chorus

About the boss, the bank, the box full of bills

empty gas tank and it’s all uphill

the wife, the kids, why do we all exist?

add politics religion and war to the list

tell me, is there anything that I missed?

and I’ll get to the bottom of that

after I get to the bottom of this

Gotta be ready cause we’re on the brink

I’ll do better after just one drink

gimme a minute so I can unthink

chorus

UP IN SMOKE

Hit town like a freight train runnin’

starin’ at us like deer in the headlights

never thought you had another thing comin’

did the same damn thing to em’ last night

Everywhere we go everywhere we been

leave a trail of ashes and a trail of sin

pack up the gear let’s hit the road

we got a long way to go now

chorus

Up in smoke

down in flames

jump on board

roll em’ like a freight train

clap yo hands

stomp yo feet

boogie on down to the redneck backbeat

throwdown it’s a hillbilly hoedown

fire it up we can go all night now

come on y’all ain’t no joke

watch the world go up in smoke

Little gal in the skin tight britches

get up and get down to the front row

sure hope your boyfriend ain’t lookin’

he won’t get hurt by what he don’t know

he don’t know that I know and you know

that I got some plans for you, baby

Everywhere we go everywhere we been

leave a trail of ashes and a trail of sin

pack up the gear let’s hit the road

we got a long way to go now

chorus

Everywhere we go everywhere we been

leave a trail of ashes and a trail of sin

pack up the gear let’s hit the road

we got a long way to go now

Watch em’ now

SANCTIFIED WOMAN

I went lookin for a sanctified woman

she was just the kind of woman I was hopin’ to find

I left home in the middle of December

she’s the only kind of woman could keep me in line

I found a girl just across the line in Georgia

she was livin’ by the highway in a pink doublewide

we left town in a 79 camaro

had a bag full of nothin’ and a bottle of wine

chorus

Can’t you see me go up in flames

Can’t you hear me screamin’ your name

I need some redemption today

from that sanctified woman

I went back to my home in Alabama

saw my Daddy in the driveway with a tear in his eye

he said “son, what you doin’ with that woman?”

said I gotta keep on runnin’ ‘fore I run outta time

chorus

I don’t even know I don’t even know

what we’re gonna do where we’re gonna go

I don’t wanna know I don’t wanna know

well we gotta go somewhere cause we sure ain’t got no home

WHO INVENTED THE WHEEL

I wanna know who invented the wheel

tell me who discovered steel

it was the wheel and the steel that caused this pain

and made the car that took her away

I wanna know who found the rock

tell me who laid the blacktop

it was the rock and the blacktop that caused this pain

and made the road for the car that took her away

I wanna know who invented the wheel

chorus

Somebody give me a name

I just need someone to blame

for all of this heartache

and pain I been feelin’ since she let me go

I wanna know

I wanna know who invented the time

I didn’t spend when she was mine

it was all that time I didn’t take

before the rock and the blacktop made the highway

for the wheel and the steel and the car that took her away

chorus

I wanna know who invented the wheel

I’D BE LYIN’

Tell you I’d be home every night

breakfast in bed and we’ll never fight

say I’m wrong when I know I’m right

but baby I’d be lyin’

Only stayin’ gone for a day or two

pretendin’ I’m too good to be true

sayin’ I’d write a song about you

but baby I’d be lyin’

Everybody’s gonna tell you what to do

you can believe what you wanna believe

but let me tell you what’s the truth

chorus

Baby I

I’d be lyin’

like all those two faced

back stabbin’ double talkers

tryin’ to get to you

If I could you know I would be

comin’ right back home where I belong

I’d be lyin’ next to you

Call you every day wherever I go

I swear you’re never gonna hear the word no

promise that I’ll never say I told you so

but baby I’d be lyin’

I’ll let you take your time I’ll never rush

I swear I’ll never drink too much

never think about another woman’s touch

but baby I’d be lyin’

Everybody’s gonna judge me through and through

you can believe what you wanna believe

but let me tell you what’s the truth

chorus

Everybody’s gonna tell you what to do

you can believe what you wanna believe

but let me tell you what’s the truth

PRAYER FOR THE LITTLE MAN

Callin’ home hold the phone like a lifeline

let the voices fill me up like a drunkard’s wine

another fix I’m fine

hang it up kill the light and just lay there

think about that girl we had it all I swear

Yea we thought it’d last forever

then we finalized

but no matter where I am

every night when I close my eyes

chorus

Say a prayer for the little man

cause he’s gonna need a helpin’ hand

now and then and I won’t be around

can you just let me know

there’s an angel lookin’ down

say a prayer for a mother’s love

yea I hope that it’ll be enough

cause I know that it’s tough

and he don’t understand

say a prayer for the little man

I remember my daddy’s phone calls

just a kid I’d always talk to him out in the hall

to keep from settin’ mama off

so I’ve been right in your shoes son

never thought in a million years

I’d ever be the one who

Thought it’d last forever

then we finalized

But every night when I close my eyes

RESTLESS

I can’t get the music up as loud as I want

I can’t play a big enough honky tonk

Can’t find a whiskey glass that’s quite tall enough

or that extra gear in my old truck

I’m restless baby

If I had the perfect woman I’d want twins

can’t get enough ink under my skin

I’ll burn the carton when my smokes are all through

can’t kick enough ass in these old boots

chorus

Cause I’m restless

I’m sleepless

on this quest I must go

out here searchin’

for somethin’

what it is I don’t know

might have to find it under my headstone

yes I’m restless

and I won’t rest till the restless is gone

Can’t ride enough miles in that old bus

ain’t a man in charge that I ain’t cussed

I broke the law until it’s plum busted up

how high is Heaven? I hope it’s high enough

SHAKE YOUR MAGNOLIA

I been around the block once or twice, baby

I never seen a girl lookin’ so nice, baby

I guess the third time makes me a fool

just like the boys in the corner

tryin’ to look so cool

You look like trouble with a capital T, baby

your kind of drama is alright with me, baby

you can make a mess of me so fine

yea you got me bait, hook, sinker and line

chorus

Come on baby shake your magnolia

come on baby do what I told ya

come on baby give it all you got tonight

I would walk through flames to get to you, baby

you shook that thang I forgot my own name, baby

I guess I’ll have to stand in line

If it takes all night I’ll give you my last dime

chorus

Come on baby shake your magnolia

come on baby do what mama told ya

come on baby give us all a shot tonight

FREEDOM SONG

That man in the mirror starin’ back at me

ain’t the man I used to see

I been walkin’ the line a long time

I need a change

Breakin’ my back workin’ double shifts

the weight of the world’s gettin’ hard to lift

I’m startin’ to think I need to break a link

in this chain

Somethin’s got to give

this ain’t no way to live

chorus

Put me on a highway

the interstate

a dirt road

to anyplace

as long as I’m long gone

chasin’ down some blue skies

in my old truck

Tune the world out

Turn the radio up

Sing along to my freedom song

Well I got a good woman and she understands

every now and then her old man

needs some down time

to clear his mind and unplug

This time tomorrow you won’t see my face

there’ll be one less rat runnin’ in this race

I’ll be soothin’ my soul with a fishin’ pole

that’s what I love

chorus

SON OF THE BOURBON

My mama drank scotch whiskey

and my daddy drank Jim Beam

I was concieved

just outside of New Orleans

told my ma he loved her

while ole Elvin Bishop played

daddy’d be the worst mistake

my mama ever made

chorus

I’m a son of the bourbon

I’m a son of a bitch

I’m the dying breed of rock and roll

left ass up in a ditch

I’ve been up against the law

I’ve served some time in jail

I’ve been known for gettin’ stoned

and I’ve raised my share of hell

They went back to Alabama

one cold October day

soon as I was born

my daddy up and ran away

we got by on gettin’ by

we’d live from week to week

as long as I’ve got two good hands

I’ll work to earn my keep

chorus

My mama drank scotch whiskey

and my daddy drank Jim Beam

I was concieved

just outside of New Orleans

when my life is over

and my time has come to pass

bury me upside down

so the world can kiss my ass

LESSON IN A BOTTLE

There’s a lesson in a bottle

that never gets learned

sweep out the ashes

of the bridges I’ve burned

white lines and wild times

passed out cold and left behind

then I’m right back

in the saddle again

chorus

There’s a lesson in a bottle

bartender pour a shot I’ll

have a whiskey

I believe it’s my turn

There’s a lesson in a bottle

bartender pour a shot I’ll

have a whiskey

cause I’ll never learn

Blue lights and fist fights

one too many out all nights

like a freight train

that’s done run outta track

I’ve been a winner and a loser

sloppy drunk and a drug abuser

if I get through this, Lord

I swear I’ll cut way back

chorus

I’m a long, long way

from where I was goin’

It’s been a long, long time

my scars are sure showin’

but school’s in session

bring the liquor

KEEP ON KEEPIN ON

I have been given advice in my time

I have been crooked and I’ve stayed in line

I sometimes have bullseyes on the tops of my shoes

I may not be winnin’ but I damn sure can’t lose

chorus

Keep your head in the clouds

keep your hands on the wheel

keep both feet in place on the ground

keep your nose to the stone

keep your eyes on the prize

but I’ll keep on keepin on

till the day that I die

I can point a finger at the people I see

but I’ve got three more pointin’ straight back at me

so why does everybody wanna make my wrongs right

I may not be perfect but I’ll always get by

chorus

I’ve walked out, crawled out, been thrown out sometimes

but I’m man enough to pay for all the debts from my crimes

hypocrites and liars wanna advise me to death

but opinions are like assholes and I’ll keep mine to myself

THE ONLY THING SHE LEFT BEHIND

She left me without givin’ a reason why

she didn’t even hang around to watch me cry

she didn’t even leave a note

tellin’ me “daddy, that’s all she wrote”

the only thing she left behind was me

she left me here to wonder

what in the world I did wrong

if she was so unhappy Lord

what took her so long?

She didn’t even leave my supper on the stove

she took off in the only pickup truck I ever drove

she didn’t even leave a note

tellin’ me “daddy, that’s all she wrote”

the only thing she left behind was me

She left me on the front porch

hummin’ this old lonesome tune

I guess I could go after her

but the race comes on at noon

She left me without givin’ a reason why

she ddidn’t even hang around to watch me cry

she didn’t even leave a note

tellin’ me “daddy, that’s all she wrote”

the only thing she left behind was me

come to think of it, thank God

she left the TV

LIVIN HELL

In a livin’ hell

in a livin’ hell

my ass is gettin’ redder

as my liver swells

In a livin’ hell

in a livin’ hell

I’m down in the gutter

and I’m startin’ to smell

chorus

I been put down

kicked around

drink it up

to bad luck

In a livin’ hell

in a livin’ hell

I ain’t makin’ no money

cause my records don’t sell

In a livin’ hell

in a livin’ hell

my girlfriend’s……..!

at the taco bell

chorus

In a livin’ hell

in a livin’ hell

now I’m eatin’………!

at the sheraton hotel

In a livin’ hell

in a livin’ hell

you know I love ya baby, but

OMG, LOL, LMAO, LMFAO, ROFL

TESTIFY

It was in the spring on a sunny day

saw a good boy turn and go the wrong way

he was too busy looking hard as stone

to ever realize he was all alone

chorus

wanna testify ’bout the things I’ve seen

wash my hands but they never come clean

testify some win some lose

everybody’s gonna have to stand accused

Saw a little girl in a redneck bar

ain’t so sure she wants to go that far

can’t drink liquor ‘less she holds her nose

she’s about to find out that everything goes

chorus

It was in the spring on a sunny day

saw a good boy turn and go the wrong way

he was too busy being hard as stone

to ever realize he was all alone

SANCTIFIED WOMAN

I went lookin for a sanctified woman

she was just the kind of woman I was hopin’ to find

I left home in the middle of December

she’s the only kind of woman could keep me in line

I found a girl just across the line in Georgia

chorus

Can’t you see me go up in flames

Can’t you hear me screamin’ your name

I need some redemption today

from that sanctified woman

I went back to my home in Alabama

saw my Daddy in the driveway with a tear in his eye

chorus

I don’t even know I don’t even know

what we’re gonna do where we’re gonna go

I don’t wanna know I don’t wanna know

well we gotta go somewhere cause we sure ain’t got no home

ANOTHER CHANCE

Livin’ with my back against the wall

nowhere but forward to fall

I close my eyes somebody catch my breath

oh my Lord let’s get on board

the ride’s gonna scare me to death

chorus

Don’t wanna leave before my time is done

don’t wanna stick around when my race is run

don’t wanna go before they call my dance

don’t wanna die askin’ for another chance

Come help me poor Richard

won’t you help me raise a glass

here’s to me and here’s to you

may your dreams all come to pass

cruel trick of time is played in the wink of an eye

heaven’s above don’t need no shove

the years go sailin by

chorus

Another game of chance

a lifetime come and gone

I guess it’s up to me

don’t wanna sing another man’s song

I wanna say what Grandma said

lying on her dying bed

Yea I’ve been cheated, mistreated

I don’t have to say that yet

NOTHIN FOR YOU

Well excuse me baby

what in the world is goin’ on?

got an earful of trouble

when I called you on the telephone

Well you’re screamin’ and a cryin’

bitchin’ how bad you been used

well I ain’t got nothin for you

now I’m strappin’ on my travelin’ shoes

chorus

I ain’t got nothin’ for you

I ain’t got nothin’ for you

don’t stand there with your hand out honey

I ain’t got nothin’ for you

I ran into your mama

at the bar last Saturday night

the last thing I’d ever want to do

is not to treat you right

she’s been tellin’ every body in town

I’m the one you need

well my tracks out of the driveway’ll

be the last thing you see of me

chorus

I can’t shut you up

I can’t shut you down

I can’t shut you off

you’re still around

NORMALTOWN

Down in Normaltown

everywhere around

everything is square or is round

Andalusian dogs

never made the grade

movie houses patrons are so plain

chorus

While the rest of the world

keeps spinnin’ around and round

life goes on in Normaltown

1989 everyone was fine

contented while they stood around in line

they were so impressed

standing in the grass

home and then for beddy-bye they dressed

chorus

while the rest of the world

keeps spinnin’ around and round

life goes on in Normaltown

You can never go home

but that don’t bring me down

life goes on in Normaltown

Mayor John Doe Normal

sat back and watched all his servants

working day to day

big shot Mayor Normal

never saw it coming when they

took his little crown away

In Normaltown they say

a man can make his life

find a Normal girl to make his wife

Normaltown is home

I guess it’s just as well

now you know why this is a living hell

TRAIN ROLLIN’

I don’t wanna hear it

I don’t wanne hear it

I been raisin’ hell again

I know we’ve been through it

I put myself into it

feel like I might crawl out my skin

I’m so sick and tired

of being sick and tired

same old cliche in the end

baby when you kiss me

you know I’m drinkin’ whiskey

“go to hell, me” all over again

chorus

I’m a train train rollin’

rollin over you

a train train rollin’

ain’t nothin you can do

I don’t even know ya

what makes you think I owe ya

I got problems of my own

baby in a carriage

low rent psycho marriage

feelin I might go all night

or maybe more

Baby’s sick and tired

of bein’ sick and tired

same old cliche in the end

baby when you kiss me

you know I’m drinkin whiskey

“go to hell, me” all over again

ANGELINE

She left home with my last name

left her mark tattooed on the back of my brain

she was a friend of mine

same old story you heard a thousand times

i had nickels that girl wanted dimes

she was my valentine

If you see that girl out walkin’ your way

throw your hand up and tell her i said “hey.”

come on home

chorus

Oh Angeline

where have you gone?

She had enough money to get herself outta town

next thing I know she’s New Orleans bound

she’s my own

I stay home and try to make ends meet

she’s turnin tricks down on Royal Street

she’s long gone

If you see that girl out walkin’ the wrong way

turn her around and send her back my way

come on back home

chorus

she ain’t got nothin’ but the clothes on her back i know

she ain’t got nobody to tell her where she needs to go

she ain’t got no friends no family nowhere, nohow

she ain’t got nothin

SURE WAS GOOD

Havin’ bad luck ain’t no crime

Lord knows I’ve rolled boxcars in my time

but it sure was good

it was good as it could be

sure was good

it was good enough for me

sure was good

I’ve been in places I don’t belong

sometimes felt like I was too far gone

but it sure was good

it was good as it could be

sure was good

nearly knocked me off my feet

sure was good

sometimes easy sometimes not

hope I did the best with what I’ve got

sure was good

SCARE THE DEVIL

I got this self tied noose around my neck

standin’ on the tracks just waitin’ for my own trainwreck

keep yourself on your side and I’ll keep me on mine

keep yourself to yourself and we’ll get along just fine

chorus

You say the Devil made you do it, with a smile

raisin’ hell and howlin’ at the moon

I’m gonna put yo ass back in line

I’m gonna scare the Devil outta you

You can take your good advice and shove it up your ass

in the race of life I’m always gonna come out last

I can walk the line and I can toe the mark

but I ain’t got no time for a broken heart

chorus

I got this self tied noose around my neck

standin’ on the tracks just waitin for my own trainwreck

keep yourself on your side and I’ll keep me on mine

keep yourself to yourself and we’ll get along just fine

MUSCADINE

Way down there in South Carolina

everybody told me there ain’t no woman finer

never gonna listen to what all my friends say

never gonna leave her for one whole day

chorus

Muscadine

my girl’s sweeter than a muscadine

Way down there below the Mason Dixon

everybody knows she’s a red haired vixen

never gonna listen to what my mama say

never gonna see her after today

Muscadine

sweetest berry hangin’ on the vine

FREEBORN MAN

I was born in the Southland

twenty some odd years ago

I left home for the first time

when I was four years old

chorus

I’m a freeborn man

my home is on my back

I know every inch of highway

every foot of backroad

every mile of railroad track

I got a gal in Cincinnati

a little woman in San Antone

I always loved the gal next door

and any old place is home

chorus

I got this worn out guitar

carry it in an old tote sack

hocked it about a hundred times

but I always get it back

chorus

You may not like my appearance

and you may not like my song

you may not like the way i talk

but you’ll like the way I’m gone

BLACKBERRY SMOKE L-R:

RICHARD TURNER – BASS/VOCALS

CHARLIE STARR – GUITAR/VOCALS

BRANDON STILL – KEYS

BRIT TURNER – DRUMS

PAUL JACKSON – GUITAR/VOCALS

Atlanta based Blackberry Smoke continues to grow into the premiere Southern Rock band of America. Over the last 12 months they have shared the stage with ZZ Top, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Shooter Jennings, Cross Canadian Ragweed and countless others. The band has recently finished recording their sophomore effort “Little Piece Of Dixie” with legendary producer Dann Huff (Keith Urban, Rascal Flatts) and engineer Justin Niebank, to be released summer of 2009.
REVIEWS

At a certain point, Southern Rock as it was perceived in the ’70s was alternately tarted up in slutty make-up by Rock or blow-dried and sanitized by Country, neither of which did much to effectively or appropriately expand the genre’s range. Blackberry Smoke may be too young to remember firsthand the visceral bite of early Lynyrd Skynyrd, the moody excellence of the Marshall Tucker Band and the gritty Blues of the first three ZZ Top albums, but they do a pretty decent job of channeling the era without slipping into faceless arena Country Pop that shares little with Southern Rock outside of a decibel level. On the Atlanta quintet’s sophomore full length, Little Piece of Dixie (also the name of the EP they released earlier in the year), they strike the right balance between the original purveyors of Southern Rock and the legitimate second-generation revivalists, polishing and contemporizing the sound without backloading too much cheese and smarm into the proceedings.

“Good One Comin’ On” is good-ol-boy-in-party-mode Country Rock with the swing and swagger of Shooter Jennings (note to the Smoke: you had me at “two six packs of Shiner…” but the Ray Wylie Hubbard reference iced it), “Like I Am” chugs and thunders like the Outlaws at a Bad Company tribute and “Up in Smoke” imagines a double bill end-of-the-night jam with Blackfoot and ZZ Top. “Sanctified Woman” sounds like the band that Paul Stanley and Henry Paul would assemble and “Who Invented the Wheel” has the earmarks of Marshall Tucker’s best with a contemporary twist that brings it straight up to date. If you’ve been missing what us old hippies remember as Southern Rock, tip a Shiner, pack a bowl and take a good long hit of Blackberry Smoke. Ya’ll.

~ City Beat / Cincinnati

Blackberry Smoke has been around a little longer and has rubbed shoulders with some really big names (ZZ Top for one), so there’s no lack of showmanship here. Charlie Starr is up there front and center, exuding personality and attitude. The vocals are tight, with some great harmonizing by guitarist Paul Jackson, and the rhythm section of brothers Brit and Richard Turner is rock solid. Brit’s drumming also has an unmistakable presence. I loved this band, particularly “Like I Am”, “Feel a Good One Comin On”, and “Sanctified Woman”.

Great music. A blend of many influences, lyrics that reach me

Can’t believe that this sound is not marketed main stream.Where are the true Rock stations where these Boys can show off their talent.Going to see them with Sister Hazel in Nashville. Should be a great show.
-author: KEITH R. BOWMAN

Saw them live with ZZ Top in Hard Rock Florida, they were fantastic. This album does not have a bad song on it, needs a couple of listens but is great. Would love to see them live again. Best of Luck to them. Fan Club, Scotland.

Bought the CD. Played nonstop for days. Saw them live with ZZ Top. Played the cd some more. The CD has an 80s Georgia Satellites feel with a newer Buckcherry hardness, but also has a few softer songs. Live they kicked butt. Wished they had done a longer set. Crowd was starting to warm up and then their set was over. Live they have a more old school Skynyrd/Blackfoot sound. Great group. Wish them luck and hope they continue doing what they do so well.

Outstanding cd with Georgia Satellites and Lynyrd Skynyrd influences with a heavy metal sound.

blackberry smoke badluck ain’t no crime it’s the only crime kickass southernrock great cd keep up the good work guys if you like lynyrd skynyrd a.brothers blackcrows you will like blackberry smoke.

Mix togheter in a cocktail shaker Black Crowes, Allman Bros ,Lynyrd Skynyrd and Buckcherry and you get Blackberry Smoke. This album is an outstanding piece of music. At the begining, you say “good record, but nothing more”, but the more you listen it the more you like it and want it. Believe me, record is full of very good riffs. “Testify”, “Scare the devil” and “Nothin For You” (what a riff) sounding like Black Crowes. “Normaltown” could be signed by Lynyrd Skynyrd,”Trainrollin” (SUPER) and “Muscadine” sound more like Buckcherry. Last 3 songs are live recorded and WOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW, these guys play at same level than Black Crowes on their beginings. Only thing I don’t like of this album is production. If this album would have had a better production we will be talking about a record to same level than Black Crowes.

The finest, dirtiest, most ass kickin` piece of (southern) rock I´ve been listening to in a loooong time !!!
-author: Al Schwarz

Blackberry Smoke is indefectibly aged, smooth as silk, southern rock. Perfectly in stride with Lynyrd Skynyrd, .38 Special and The Four Horsemen, these four longhairs are all about traveling the country road, good times with girls and plenty of drinking. Touted by Brian Johnson of AC/DC as “a band that will never go hungry”, Blackberry Smoke blends the boogie woogie and ballads like master distillers. Eight studio tracks and three live ones; this is music from well below the Mason-Dixon Line. Endearing jukebox faves, hot radio tunes and songs set for sitting on the old creaky porch – better than a heaping plate of Aunt Maude’s down home cooking………. 9.5 out of 10″

great southern rockin CD. Will be singing along for hours with the likes of testify, sanctified and train rollin.

Here’s a Southern Rock band made of balls and muscles. The first release from these rockers, produced by Jesse Dupree, the man with the power saw, the leader of Jackyl. The sound is pure southern rock and roll and sounds like the big southern rock bands of the past. The lyrics are all over the place, and they ooze highways, railroads, tattoos whiskey brawls and women. They also are big on arrangements, all the way to the riff of “Working for the MCA” that concludes “Scare the Devil”. A full disk of southern boogie rock and roll with a couple of ballads thrown in. Eight songs in the studio and three forceful tracks recorded live at Sturgis, the “bikers paradise”.“Bad Luck Ain’t No Crime” has what it takes to become our favorite new Southern Rock record. It’s been a long time since we’ve seen such a large amount of pure expression of Southern Pride in a band.Cathouse http://www.cathouse.it/

Today, I received a 3-song EP by Blackberry Smoke from Justin Crafton of The Dobro of Fire YahooGroup. I just popped it into my CD player, so I’m still on the first song (“Sanctified Woman”) but so far, so good. Very southern-roots-rock. [Makes me kinda homesick for Texas.] Groovy. Think Marshall Tucker Band, Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. If you’re into that, definitely give these guys a look-see/listen-hear: www.blackberrysmoke.com update: All three songs (“Sanctified Woman,” “Normal Town” and “Train Rollin”) are Diva-Approved, my fave being “Normal Town.” Check out Blackberry Smoke’s debut, Bad Luck Ain’t No Crime.

“Bad luck Ain’t No Crime”. Its like meeting an old friend with new exciting tales to share.. That’s the best way for me to try to describe Blackberry Smokes new full CD “Bad luck Ain’t No Crime”. If you are new to their music I warn you this is a band you immediately love. It is awesome to finally be able to play a full CD of Blackberry Smoke, instead of having to wait for them to appear at the next local venue and nothing has been lost in the translation from live to cd, the same energy and charismatic songs have been wonderfully captured. I have to admit just getting the album I am more interested in the newer tracks, (I can already sing along to the three older songs from the mini cd.) and I am really impressed. “Testify” I loved from the get go, just a great rock anthem, wonderfully performed. “Another Chance” has a beautiful melody and lyrics like a prayer; “Angeline” is another gem, a sad story that will leave you with a tear in your beer. “Sure Was Good” the track the albums title was taken from, this song quickly grows on you and yes it lives up to its name It is an excellent display of the bands versatility and growth. The last three tracks are all live (recorded in South Dakota) and they show what a tight group this is, performing like they were in the studio, I particularly favor Scare the Devil (I seem to play it over and over.) I love this CD, it does not have a bad song on it, new listeners will be awed with such a strong line up of material, older listeners will be pleased with the new cuts and smile at the older favorites. Thank you BBS for such a great and strong release. Simon

Those four guys are the best SOUTHERN HARD ROCK band has come out of USA since RAGING SLAB. Forget the new southern pussies like (edited) etc. DRIVE BY TRUCKERS and BLACKBERRY SMOKE are keeping the southern spirit alive. Eleven songs that are full of moonshine, heavy, raunchy riffs and southern mood. Imagine LYNYRD SKYNYRD jamming with GEORGIA SATTELITES and MOLLY HATCHET rehearsing in the next studio. Pure mayhem the southern way, that sends pussies like Phil Anselmo to bury their ugly heads in the sand .These guys rock major and I am sure they will soon find a decent label to release this record, which has a very good production by Jesse Dupree of JACKAL fame. Twin guitar hell and a cracking cover of GEORGIA SATTELITES’ “Another Chance” make this the southern rock album of the year. Thank god the South has never died, don’t let them get buried like the FOUR HORSMEN did, its up to you. To find this record go to Z-Roxx site, at the Southern rock section.

An appearance with Slash, a featured spot on the coveted Nascar08 soundtrack (“Up In Smoke”), a tour with ZZ Top, this Atlanta Based band has taken the “Southern Rock” banner from the likes of Black Crowes and Drivin N’ Cryin and hit the ground running. Blackberry Smoke makes no bones about being a Southern band. “We don’t pull any punches about calling this Southern rock because that’s what it is,” says Blackberry Smoke front man Charlie Starr. “It’s what we think new Southern rock should sound like.”
2008 Outlook for Blackberry Smoke
How Could 2008 be better for Blackberry Smoke? The exposure they’re getting touring with ZZTop will continue to gain this band more fans. A Summer 2008 release, produced by Dan Huff will be eagerly awaited by fans. 2008 could indeed be the year for Blackberry Smoke
